Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved the 2026 national budget, which will be presented to Parliament this afternoon (07) by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his role as Minister of Finance. The President will deliver the second reading of the Appropriation Bill, also known as the Budget Speech, at 1:30 p.m. today.
This marks the 80th national budget since Sri Lanka gained independence and the second budget under the National People’s Power (NPP) government.
According to the Parliamentary Communications Department, the Budget Debate will run from November 08 to December 05. The vote on the second reading is set for November 14 at 6:00 p.m., while the Committee Stage debate will continue for 17 days, from November 15 to December 05. The final vote on the third reading is scheduled for December 05 at 6:00 p.m.
Budget debates will be held daily throughout the period, excluding Sundays and public holidays.
