Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia have officially established the Sri Lanka–Saudi Arabia Joint Business Council, marking a major step toward deepening bilateral economic cooperation.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath announced the launch, describing it as a “historic milestone” in strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
The Council was formed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Federation of Saudi Chambers (FSC) and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) at the FSC headquarters in Riyadh.
Minister Herath, who addressed representatives of the Federation of Saudi Chambers, highlighted Sri Lanka’s expanding trade, investment, and tourism opportunities. The MoU was signed by Hassan Al-Huwaizi, Chairman of the FSC, and Keerthi Gunawardane, President of the FCCISL, who participated virtually. The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, and Chairman Al-Huwaizi exchanged the signed documents during the ceremony.
Minister Herath noted that the creation of this first-ever Business-to-Business (B2B) platform between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia will serve as a vital mechanism to foster private sector collaboration and expand economic partnerships.
“This is a long-awaited initiative that will act as a catalyst for stronger business engagement between our two countries,” he stated.
