Sri Lanka appoints 303 new graduates, including community health medical officers, to the country’s Ayurvedic Medical Service on today, marking a major step in strengthening its traditional healthcare system. The official ceremony held at the Colombo District Secretariat Auditorium under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
According to the Ministry of Health, this is the largest single recruitment of Ayurvedic medical officers since 2018. The initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness of Ayurvedic services, improve patient care quality, and fill vacancies for Primary Grade Medical Officer (PGMO) posts within the Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Medical Service.
The appointees completed a one-year intensive training program under the supervision of Ayurveda specialists at central and provincial hospitals across the country. They will be deployed to healthcare institutions managed by both the central government and provincial councils.
Additionally, the Department of Ayurveda announced plans to strengthen its role in disease prevention and management, particularly in areas affected by kidney diseases, to broaden healthcare access and integrate traditional medicine into Sri Lanka’s national health framework.
