Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will invest nearly Rs. 1.5 billion (approximately USD 4.9 million) each year to develop and promote school-level cricket across the country, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage announced in Parliament today (24).
Responding to a parliamentary query on SLC’s support for school cricket, the Minister said the funding will be directed through the School Cricket Association to strengthen several key areas — including infrastructure development, the provision of sports equipment, and the organization of inter-school tournaments.
He added that plans are also in progress to upgrade and develop cricket grounds in multiple locations, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
