UPDATE – “Lanka Education” managed to contact University Grants Commission (UGC) officials. According to UGC sources, much awaited 2019 ZScores cutoff marks will be released to the internet before commence 2020 A/L examination. UGC sources further told “Lanka Education” that the 2019 A/L exam based ZScore Cutoff marks will be release before October 2nd week. Sources further say they will try their best to release cut-off marks during October first week.

According to the Sri Lanka University Grants Commission UGC sources whole admission and students intake process will be delayed due to coronavirus outbreak. University admission applications are not yet taken. Universities are not yet reopen. Earlier UGC was planning to issue Z Score cut-off marks for the new academic year on June or July months. But with the coronavirus outbreak, curfew and lockdowns Z score Cut-off marks will not be able to release on time. UGC has not yet officially announced the exact date of releasing Z score “Kada Im Lakunu”.

2019 A/L exam based university z score cut-off marks for new academic year 2019/2020 will be delayed.

Before the coronavirus outbreak, Government planning to prepare a mechanism to admit students to universities within 6 months period after A/L exam results release. Normally it takes about one year to admit students to local universities.  

Academic activities of Medical & Engineering faculties will start before 2020 November end. According to the reliable sources other faculties (Management, Science, Arts) will start from 2020 December to February 2021 period.

Online Applications for University Admission-Academic Year 2019/2020

The deadline to accept application for university admission extended two weeks after re-opening schools. Schools are planning to re-open probably in June. Hence the new deadline will be a date in June or July.

When universities reopen?

Universities will be reopened after evaluating the current situation. Higher Education Ministry has advised universities officials to discuss with Health Officials and UGC before take a decision over re-opening dates.

Several universities open for the non-academic staff. Some members of the non-academic staff have report for duty over the sterilization process carried out in the university premises.

“There is no intention of opening universities under the traditional method, as social distancing may not be maintained. Reopening universities for the undergraduates will take time as there is curfew and people would not be allowed to travel between districts. Even with the curfew being in effect, medical and science faculties of several universities are tasked with conducting real-time PCR tests these days” Prof. Sampath Amaratunge said.

Universities and Campuses will be reopen in three stages but the dates have not been announced officially.
