Sri Lanka’s stock market recorded a strong recovery on Wednesday, with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) closing above the 22,000-point level following a sharp rally.
The ASPI ended the day at 22,034.32, rising by 439.46 points, or 2.04 percent. Meanwhile, the S&P SL20 index, which tracks the performance of the largest and most liquid listed companies, gained 77.47 points (1.31 percent) to close at 6,004.11.
Market turnover for the day reached Rs. 3.88 billion, according to data from the CSE.
The main indices had previously declined in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah, which disrupted economic activity across parts of the country. However, analysts expect market sentiment to continue improving as Sri Lanka gradually returns to normal operations in the days ahead.
