Sri Lanka’s overall inflation, measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), rose to 2.1% in September 2025, up from 1.5% in August, according to the latest data released by the Department of Census and Statistics.
The increase was largely driven by rising food prices, with food inflation climbing to 3.8% in September from 2.9% in August. Meanwhile, non-food inflation also edged higher to 0.7%, compared to 0.4% the previous month.
Food commodities contributed 1.68 percentage points to the overall inflation rate in September. The NCPI for all items reached 207.4, marking a 0.2-point increase compared to August.
