Sri Lanka Education Ministry has sought recommendations from Health officials whether schools are reopening or not on November 9. Earlier it was planned to re-open schools on the 09th of November. Final decision taken November 18 and it was announced today. All schools excluding those in the Western Province & Lockdown areas will re-open for Grades 06 – 13 from November 23.

Reopening of Sri Lanka government schools to be postponed due to present coronavirus spike situation in the country, according to ministry of education sources. Education Ministry secretary, Prof Kapila Perera has told to “Silumina newspaper” that due to the outbreak of COVID19, schools cannot be reopened as scheduled. When Reopen Schools in Sri Lanka?

Current school vacation was declared a week earlier in early last month as 2nd wave of COVID 19 outbreak started in Sri Lanka on 4 October. Education ministry sought health ministry recommendations last week to reopening of schools. Final decision is based on health ministry recommendations, but it is unlikely that health authorities allow school reopening soon, well informed sources said.

  • * Third school term start from 09th of November 2020 and ends on 23rd of December 2020.
  • * The year-end school vacation 24th of December and last till 01st of January 2021.
  • * New school term commence 04th of January 2021
  • * O/L Exam from January 18 January 27.

Sri Lanka Schools Reopening Delay

Sri Lanka Education Ministry has sought recommendations from Health officials whether schools are reopening or not on November 9. Earlier it was planned to re-open schools on the 09th of November. Final decision will be taken coming days after A/L Exam concluded.

Sri Lanka Education Ministry announced Government and Private International Schools opening / Vacation / Holidays Term end / starts dates. All schools in Sri Lanka closed until further notice . According to an earlier announcement by the Education Ministry, schools were closed immediately from July 13 to July 17, just weeks after it re-opened, after the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre transformed into a cluster, spreading panic among all citizens.

On July 13, Sri Lanka closes schools- All government schools closed from the July 13th to 17th of July. Government requested from Private schools, International Schools, Catholic private schools and Tuition Classes to close their institutions.

After 113 days, Sri Lanka opened schools on July 6 but recent increase of coronavirus positive cases pushed government to make the latest decision. Sri Lanka’s schools closed from March 18 due to the coronavirus epidemic but as government successfully tackled with no community spread since April 30, Education Ministry reopened schools from July 6.
