Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education has announced that the remaining subjects of the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination—postponed due to severe weather—will be held in early January 2026.
Education Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewe stated that schools in provinces and districts unaffected by transport disruptions, communication breakdowns, or power outages are expected to reopen on December 16. Decisions on reopening schools in harder-hit areas will be made soon, following assessments with provincial and district authorities.
Universities, National Colleges of Education, and vocational training institutes that were not impacted by the adverse weather are scheduled to reopen on December 8. Kaluwewe added that if any higher education institution faces operational challenges, its leadership will have the authority to determine an appropriate reopening date.
