After 113 days, Sri Lanka Education Ministry decided to open schools from July 6 Monday under several stages. All arrangements have been made for reopening schools following the Covid-19 outbreak. Ministry stated that, the Disinfection of schools, preparation of timetables and other required measures required for resuming academic activities at schools were carried out. Lanka Government says that the spread of the coronavirus pandemic has been successfully tackled with no community spread since April 30. Sri Lanka Reopen all Schools from July 6.
1 – According to the ministry, under first stage all teachers and Principals reported to schools for the initial preparations.
2- Under second stage, Grade 13, Grade 11 and Grade 5 students request to report schools on July 6.
3- Under the 3rd stage, Grade 10 & 12 students request to report schools on July 20
4- Under the 4th stage, Grade 3, 4, 6, 7 , 8, 9 request to report schools on July 27.
5- Under the 5th stage, Grade 1, 2 request to report schools on August 10.
Sri Lanka’s schools that were closed from March 18 due to the coronavirus epidemic will re-open nearly four months on, July 6 for nearly 800,000 students in selected grades.
The schools will be opened tomorrow July 6, only for 765,693 students in grades 13, 11, and 5 amid strict health measures, according to the Ministry of Education.
The total number of students is about 4.2 million and the others will return to schools in several stages. Children in grades 10 and 12 will be able to attend the schools from July 20 and classes begin on July 27 for Grade 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. No decision has been taken as yet to reopen schools for Grade 1 and 2.
Secretary of the Ministry of Education Ranjith Chandrasekara said all the schools have been cleaned and disinfected in preparation for the students to return.
The Secretary of Education has further stated that until the 10th of August, when the schools will be fully functional, teachers should come to the school only to teach for the period they are assigned.
The edu minister said his officials will hold talks with transport authorities in the coming days to prepare a mechanism to provide safe transport for the schoolchildren. Sri Lanka Reopen all Schools from July 6

- Advanced Level exam from September 7 to October 2 (Pending)
- Grade 5 scholarship exam on September 13
How schools Reopen ?
Schools will be only open for the academic staff at first, the non-academic staff later, after which Advanced Level (A/L) students, and then other students.
Ministry of Education Director – Health and Nutrition Renuka Peiris explained that all educational institutes, state-owned and privately owned, will follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services when schools are permitted to reopen.
