Sri Lanka expects significant benefits from co-hosting the 2026 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup alongside India, including enhanced international visibility and an increase in foreign tourist arrivals, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
A planning meeting was held at the Presidential Secretariat with officials from Sri Lanka Cricket and the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, to review preparations for the global event. Discussions focused on meeting International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, ensuring high-quality tournament facilities, and addressing immigration and emigration processes for visiting spectators.
Sri Lanka is set to host matches at three venues in Colombo and Pallekele. The PMD noted that the national “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative is expected to support environmental and logistical efforts throughout the tournament.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will run from February 7 to March 8, featuring twenty competing nations. The ICC plans to stage around twenty matches in Sri Lanka as part of the co-hosted event.
