Sri Lanka Expands Self-Check-In Facilities at Bandaranaike International Airport Ahead of Winter Travel Surge

SriLankan Airlines’ Airport and Ground Services division— the exclusive ground handling provider at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA)—has expanded its self-check-in options for passengers ahead of the busy winter travel season.

Authorities expect more than 300,000 tourists to arrive in Sri Lanka in December, prompting efforts to streamline airport operations. Last month, 20 new self-check-in kiosks were installed at the BIA departure terminal, increasing the total to 28.

Developed by SriLankan Airlines’ in-house IT team, the system enables travelers to check in independently, choose their seats, print boarding passes, and generate bag tags within minutes. The upgrade is designed to reduce queues, ease terminal congestion, and enhance the overall travel experience as the country prepares for a seasonal influx of visitors.
