Cyclone Alert ❗ Low Pressure is developing in Bay of Bengal and expected to be intensify into a Cyclonic Storm ” Burevi ” and to impact Sri Lanka and South India coming days (November30 to December 4). #CycloneBurevi #Burevi. Well-marked low over SE BOB and can concentrate into a depression next day or so. Low can become CS #Burevi before striking #SriLanka or S #TamilNadu around midweek. Another low can for near S Andaman Sea toward next weekend.
The low pressure area in the south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression during next 24 hours and likely to intensify further. This system is likely to move nearly west-northwestwards to the north coast of Sri Lanka. It will affect weather over the island and surrounding sea areas during next few days.
Several spells of showers will occur at several places in Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm are likely at some places.
Fairly strong gusty winds (30-40) kmph can be expected in Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and North-Western provinces.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
There is a possibility to develop a low pressure area to the South-East of Sri Lanka. Fishing and naval community will be informed in due course in this regard.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo. A few showers may occur in the other sea ares around the island.
Winds will be north-easterly in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambanthota via Kankasnthureyi, Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Winds will be variable in dirrection in the other sea areas around the island. The wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. The wind speed can increase up to 50kmph at times over sea area extending from Colombo to Kankasnthureyi via Mannar.

The sea area around the island can be slight to moderate. The sea areas extending from Colombo to Kankasnthureyi via Mannar will be fairly rough at times
Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the Island. The risk is mentioned in the map. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
