The Governments of Sri Lanka and Belize have officially established diplomatic relations, effective October 21, following the signing of a bilateral agreement in New York.
The agreement was signed by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jayantha Jayasuriya, and Belize’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Janine Coye-Felson.
In a joint statement, both foreign ministries expressed confidence that the establishment of diplomatic ties will strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two nations, fostering collaboration in political, socio-economic, and cultural spheres for mutual benefit.
