A high-level meeting was held on October 20, at the Presidential Secretariat between Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and representatives of the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA).
During the discussion, FUTA representatives outlined the challenges currently affecting the country’s university system, including delays in completing degree programs and difficulties faced by academic staff.
President Dissanayake directed FUTA to prepare and submit a comprehensive plan to expedite the completion of degree programs while maintaining academic quality. The plan is also expected to propose measures for managing accumulated workloads and strengthening research and development activities.
The President assured that the government would provide the necessary support and resources to implement the plan effectively. The meeting also focused on improving the overall quality of higher education, as well as addressing issues related to the recruitment and retention of university academics and staff.
