Sri Lanka’s latest defence cooperation move with the United States has entered the public domain after the Ministry of Defence’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Montana National Guard was formally tabled in Parliament by Deputy Defence Minister Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Aruna Jayasekara.
The agreement, signed on November 14 at the Ministry of Defence, establishes a new partnership framework between the Montana National Guard, the U.S. Coast Guard District 13, and the Sri Lanka Armed Forces under the U.S. Department of Defense’s State Partnership Program (SPP). The document outlines planned cooperation in areas that include maritime security, professional military exchanges, and joint initiatives aimed at strengthening regional stability.
