Australia’s Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs, and International Education, Julian Hill, has concluded a two-day visit to Sri Lanka aimed at deepening cooperation across border security, education, and humanitarian support.
In a statement shared on X, the Australian High Commission highlighted that the visit reaffirmed Australia’s solidarity with Sri Lanka as the country continues its recovery from Cyclone Ditwah. Minister Hill engaged with key government institutions, emphasising the importance of strong partnerships in areas such as customs, immigration, and national intelligence.
During a briefing at the Border Risk Assessment Centre—established with Australian assistance—officials outlined emerging regional challenges including irregular migration, cross-border trafficking, narcotics, contraband, and organised crime.
Meetings with the Chief of National Intelligence, the Controller-General of Immigration and Emigration, and the Director-General of Customs underscored a shared commitment to strengthening operational cooperation.
The visit also focused on advancing educational links, promoting transnational education models, and celebrating the contributions of Sri Lanka’s dynamic Australian diaspora communities.
The High Commission noted that Australia remains committed to supporting Sri Lanka in promoting safe migration, secure borders, resilient trade flows, and expanded opportunities for students and communities across the Indo-Pacific.
