School Reopening Postponed to December 16 Due to Adverse Weather

The Ministry of Education has decided to postpone the reopening of all schools until December 16 as adverse weather conditions continue to impact several parts of the country. The decision follows widespread flooding, disrupted transport networks, and safety concerns for students and staff. Schools in Sri Lanka, originally set to reopen on December 8, are now postponed.

According to the Ministry, the extended closure aims to ensure that schools are fully safe and accessible before academic activities resume. Authorities are currently assessing damage in affected regions, especially in areas where heavy rainfall has led to flooding and instability.

Sri Lanka’s government has asked international schools to close due to severe weather. New reopening dates will be announced later.
