The Sri Lankan Ministry of Environment has announced the launch of a new hotline — 1995 — which will become operational from tomorrow. The hotline enables the public to report any incidents of environmental damage or harm to the country’s forest systems.
The initiative aims to strengthen the effectiveness of forest and wildlife conservation efforts and to prevent and curb forest-related crimes. Upon receiving reports, security forces and officers from the Department of Wildlife Conservation will conduct immediate field operations in the relevant areas.
All data collected through the hotline will be centralized, categorized, and analyzed to identify patterns and high-risk regions for environmental crimes. These insights will guide future strategies and actions to better protect Sri Lanka’s forests and biodiversity.
