University of Colombo Hosts Scholarly Discourse on Proposed Education Reforms

A comprehensive scholarly discourse on the proposed new education reforms was held on October 28, 2025, at the Sanathana Sabha Assembly Hall of the University of Colombo under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

The event brought together a diverse group of participants, including senior officials from the Ministry of Education, university professors, representatives of teachers’ unions, and civil society organizations. Prof. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri, and a wide range of scholars representing various academic disciplines also took part in the discussion.

The forum provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange of views on the proposed education reforms aimed at enhancing quality, accessibility, and relevance within Sri Lanka’s higher education system. Participants engaged in constructive dialogue on policy frameworks, curriculum modernization, and strategies to align education with the country’s socio-economic development goals.
