Sri Lanka will implement a unified national curriculum framework across all preschools starting in 2026, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced.

The announcement was made during a meeting of the Parliamentary Subcommittee on Education Reforms, chaired by the Prime Minister in her capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education.

Dr. Amarasuriya confirmed that the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework has been finalized, with a comprehensive training program for nearly 19,000 preschool teachers scheduled to begin on November 25, 2025. The training will be conducted across all provinces to ensure consistency in teaching practices under the new framework.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving education quality, the Prime Minister emphasized that no schools will be closed under current reforms. Instead, the focus is on consolidation, development, and equal access to early learning opportunities for every child in the country.
