University of Ruhuna Students Remanded After Clash Following Cricket Match Dispute

A group of students from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Ruhuna in Sri Lanka has been remanded until October 28 following a violent clash that erupted after a cricket match.

The Matara Chief Magistrate, Chathura Dissanayake, issued the remand order after the altercation left at least six students injured. The incident reportedly began as a disagreement over match scores during a friendly cricket game on Sunday (October 19) between second-year and third-year students.

Although tensions were initially diffused, another confrontation broke out the following day (October 20), escalating into a physical fight. Six students sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.

In response, the university administration temporarily suspended student access to the Faculty of Agriculture premises to restore order and ensure safety.
