Sri Lanka Education Ministry has decided to announce A/L exam dates next week after having discussion with relevant parties. Ministry conducted an online survey to obtain the public’s opinion on the date to hold the GCE Advanced Level Examination 2020. Survey is over now. Meanwhile recently, group of Advanced Level (A/L) students made a request from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to postpone the examination to October. President assured that this matter will be directed to Education Minister.

When 2020 A/L Exam begins?

Normally, A/L exam is scheduled on August month every year, but the exam was postponed this year due to Coronavirus outbreak. Earlier officials said 2020 A/L Exam will be held from September 7 to October 2. But students have requested to postpone it by three weeks. Now Ministry is having discussions with students, principals and teachers about this matter. Also ministry conducted an online survey to obtain the opinion whether exam should held on September 7 or delay. Survey is over now. Final decision on the date of the A/L Exam will be decided probably coming days. Based on the final decision exam will be held on September 7 or postponed to another date. It will be a day in September month or October. With sudden increase in coronavirus cases, it is difficult to predict the exam dates. Government is considering to postpone the A/L Exam again. Education minister Dullas Alahapperuma has advised officials to explore whether there is a need to postpone the Advanced Level examination. Minister told during a meeting that a group of students had requested him to postpone the A/L exam, which is scheduled on September 7. Students have requested to postpone exam at least by three weeks.

Meanwhile issuing a statement Education Ministry says final decision on the date of the examination will be decided July first week soon after schools reopen.
